MICRO-STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF STAINLESS STEELS
Research Line: Structure and Properties of Materials

Description: Stainless steels are special alloys selected for applications where corrosion resistance is one of the main requirements, often the most important. However, the universe of these alloys is very wide, with a great diversity of materials, whose proper selection is not always verified. The study of the physical metallurgy of stainless steels is always in the understanding of the microstructure-processing-properties relations. In this line, there are implemented the investigations of the influences of the thermal and thermomechanical treatments on the microstructure and properties, the effect of the cold plastic deformation and the weldability of the ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex stainless steels.
