Compliance With Society Demands
PPRER aims the education of qualified human resources in the field of Ethnic-Racial Relations, from an interdisciplinary approach, training researchers and professionals capable of solving real-world problems linked to the issue of structural racism in Brazilian society. In this sense, through a fruitful dialogue between basic and applied research of an interdisciplinary orientation, the works produced at PPRER have a wide range of social insertion. A significant number of dissertations are the result of investigations carried out in applied contexts, such as educational, cultural, artistic and health.
It is worth noting that we have received students from different regions of Brazil and from different countries attracted by the program's theme, by the proposed interdisciplinarity, by recognizing CEFET/RJ as a credible institution and by the PPRER pioneering in the field of ethnic-racial relations. In this sense, the program is socially inserted in broader contexts, exceeding the limits of the State of Rio de Janeiro, considering that, once graduated, these students will take the knowledge acquired during the master's for their professional and academic performance in their places of origin.
We also emphasize that one of the most important indicators of social inclusion of PPRER is its interface with Basic Education. A good part of the program's faculty works in Secondary education with a technical specialization of CEFET/RJ, not only teaching classes, but also advising undergraduate research projects of the PIBIC-EM Program, with the offer of CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological) and CEFET/RJ scholarships. This activity, in addition to contributing to the education of students, also allows them to interact with undergraduate and graduate students, promoting the verticalization of teaching and awakening their investigative spirit. Integration with Basic Education is also materialized through the professional performance of PPRER students and graduates, since, for the most part, they are teachers from public and private schools in different regions of the State of Rio de Janeiro and take the knowledge acquired in the master's course to their classrooms, thus contributing to the promotion of an anti-racist education.
