History
In 2010, CEFET/RJorganized a discussion group with regular meetings, in which it was debated and evaluated, including bibliography referring to the area, classes produced by the teachers, their objectives, their methods and forms of evaluation. Initially, participants of this group included, besides the CEFET/RJ teachers, teachers from Colégio Pedro II and nowadays there are also teachers from PUC-Rio, UFRJ, UFRRJ and UNIRIO.

With effect, the principal fruit of development of the referred group was the Lato Sensu Post-Graduation in the teaching of philosophy with the emphasis on teaching practice approved by CEFET/RJ in 2012 in which it functioned until the beginning of 2016.It is worth mentioning that both the pioneering character of this initiative in the state of Rio de Janeiro and its political-social commitment to offer free quality training to professionals who are distant from the faculty and, even though they teach discipline, are not trained within the specific area.

The natural path of Lato Sensu Post-Graduation in Teaching Philosophy with Emphasis on Teaching Practice was the creation of the Post-Graduate Program in Philosophy and Teaching. Primarily, there was a demand from society, which needed a continuing education of the philosophy teacher at the postgraduate level, but which lacked institutional space to do so. With the compulsory teaching of philosophy in all the years of high school (which lasted until 2016 at the national level),the number of degrees in the area grew, but not the Lato and Stricto Sensu courses, aimed at teaching philosophy. Faced with this need, the path to the creation of PPFEN was encouraged by the Directors at CEFET / RJ and also expected by the students and alumni of the Lato Sensu Post-Graduation in Teaching Philosophy with Emphasis on Teaching Practice. The teaching, research, extension and administrative experiences acquired over the years by the discussion group, by the Post-Graduation Lato Sensu, and by the other projects underway within the institution made it possible to submit the proposal for the creation of the first professional master's degree in philosophy and teaching in the country, in CEFET / RJ, to CAPES, with the first group in early 2015.

Justification
Philosophy, although it is a theoretical discipline, demands of the student a practical activity without which it does not obtain any success. It is not enough for a student of Philosophy to reproduce the main features of the systems of the exponents of philosophical thought. Before and preferably, the student should be able to reflect on the classical issues of Philosophy and relate them to their daily lives according to the most different perspectives.

This course aims to provide an appropriate space for teachers of Philosophy and, in general, professionals in the educational sector, who have a higher education, to rethink their pedagogical commitment when reflecting on appropriate practices, as well as their theoretical presuppositions, for the realization of Philosophy Teaching. In addition to this, the course will emphasize on issues directly related to the teaching-learning process, contributing to the expansion and improvement of the attendance of the professionals of the said institutions, with a view to renewing them in the pedagogical thinking and doing.A good part of the faculty that integrates this Post-Graduation had extensive experience with diverse networks of basic education and experienced both its successes and failures. From experience, it is considered that the precariousness of the public and private education networks in which the Philosophy teacher of basic education must work, demands an appropriate space of discussion so that the difficulties of the teaching work are researched and have solutions applied. At present, there are no conditions, space or incentive for teachers to reflect on and to research their own teaching practice and to establish dialogue with their peers.Without this, the teaching practice of Philosophy becomes seriously compromised and, in addition, certain technologies and diverse didactic resources are still little used by the teacher in his or her educational task, allowing, in this way, to suspect both the lack of knowledge of methods for the development of material for the teaching of Philosophy, and the constant difficulties of access to new technologies by these said teachers.

Philosophy possesses great importance, be it for the understanding of the foundations of sciences, or for the formation of the individual as an autonomous citizen capable of reflecting on contemporaneity as a whole; however, the current scenario allows us to affirm that the effective teaching of this discipline depends on and requires space for reflection and subsequent production of strategies and didactic materials. Spaces like this are created together with the Graduate Program in Philosophy and Teaching.

In this sense, PPFEN reaffirms its commitment to defend the presence of philosophy in basic education as a discipline of the curriculum because it is understood to be  a constituent of the integral formation of students in democratic societies.
