OSI Best Thesis Awards

OSI has instituted Best Thesis Awards: Up to three Best Ph.D. Thesis Awards will be given, each carrying a Certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5000. For this Symposium, all those who have defended their thesis during the period July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021 can apply for the award by submitting a 2-page summary and a list of publications arising out of the thesis work. The format used should be the same as that for the FOP21 paper submission. An endorsement letter by the supervisor must also be submitted. All entries will be judged by a panel and selected entries will be required to make presentation in a designated session at the Symposium. Finally, best theses will be selected on the basis of the quality of the thesis and the presentation made.

Best Student Presentation Awards

Selected presentations by students during the Symposium will be adjudged for Best Student Presentation Awards.

Special Session for Start-ups

A special session to showcase start-ups in the area of Optics and Photonics in India will be organized. For participation in this session, please contact Session Coordinators Dr. K.R. Best two start-ups, as adjudged during the Symposium, will be presented awards of Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000, respectively, and a certificate each.

Techno-Commercial Opportunities

Industries and Service providers can have the benefit of the Symposium to reach out to the Optics and Photonics community in India and abroad. Sponsorship (fee of Rs. 1,00,000) and Co-sponsorship (fee of Rs. 60,000) can be availed of. The logo and poster of the sponsors will be included on the website, and will also be displayed all-together in one screen during change-over of online-sessions. Sponsor and Co-sponsors will also be given 15 min and 10 min time slots, respectively, for presentation in the Techno-Commercial Session. Participation in the Techno-Commercial Session as a presenter only is also welcome for a fee of Rs. 30,000 (15 mins slot) or Rs. 20,000 (10 min slot). Any other proposal for involvement is also welcome; please contact the Chairs.

Paper Submissions

Paper submission is now open for original contributory research papers. There will be two types of presentations – ‘regular’ and ‘short’. A ‘regular’ presentation will be an oral presentation of 12 mins followed by 3 mins for discussion. A ‘short’ presentation will include a brief oral presentation for 3 mins and a poster display on the conference website for a specific period. It is planned to group 5 such short presentations in a slot of 20 mins to allow for 5 min discussion at the end of the slot. Author(s) of an accepted short paper will be required to send a poster in a specified format by September 15, 2021.

Registration

The Symposium will be held online. There will be no registration fee. All paper presenters, however, must be members of any one (or more) of the following societies: OSI, OSA, SPIE and IEEE Photonics Society. All attendees are also encouraged to be members of the OSI. Those who have made a paper submission through the submission form need not register again. All others who require a participation certificate must also register as participant. Attending session online will be open to all.
